Frequently asked questions about immigration and legal assistance in Spain
Is it mandatory for a school to be accredited by the Instituto Cervantes?
Yes, in order to obtain a long-term student visa (more than 180 days) and subsequently apply for a residence card (TIE) in Spain, the educational institution must be accredited by the Instituto Cervantes. The consulate rejects documents from non-accredited schools.
How many hours a week should I study?
Immigration law requires that the course be intensive and in-person (presencial). The minimum required course load is 20 academic hours per week. Online courses or weekend courses are not eligible for a visa.
Do I have to pay for the entire course at once?
Yes. To receive an official letter of admission (Carta de Admisión), which is submitted to the consulate or immigration office, the school will require 100% prepayment for the entire duration of the program (usually 6–12 months).
What will happen to my money if my visa application is denied?
All schools in our partner directory have a transparent refund policy. If you receive an official visa denial (Denegado), the school will refund the full cost of the course, minus a small administrative fee (usually between 150 and 250 euros).
Can I travel to Spain as a tourist and enroll in a school once I'm there?
Yes, the law allows you to apply for a student residence permit while legally residing in Spain (for example, on a Schengen visa). The main requirement is that, at the time of application, you must have at least 30 days of legal stay remaining. We provide full support throughout this process.
